Product information "Olivia C130 Durston Combination Roller"
Durston Olivia C130 Combination Roller with 50:1 Gear Ratio and Front-Wheel Drive
The Olivia C130 from Durston Tools is a hand-operated combination roller featuring a proprietary gear system with a 50:1 reduction ratio (patent pending, UK 2010974.0, international PCT/EP2021/068551). Unlike conventional rollers with a side crank, the Olivia is driven by a handwheel located at the front. This allows it to be operated either while standing or sitting.
The rollers complete one revolution for every 50 turns of the handwheel. The gear mechanism and handwheel are designed to work together so that the handwheel—thanks to its flywheel mass—can be turned significantly faster than the crank of a roller with a 4:1 gear ratio. The effort required is very low, allowing even people with limited strength or mobility to work with minimal fatigue. Thanks to its smooth operation and high rolling force, the Olivia is particularly well-suited for pattern rolling and embossing work.
Since no crank swings out to the side, the roller requires no additional space for movement. It can be set up at any point along the workbench—not just at the end—and can be integrated directly into the workspace.
The main rollers, with a diameter of 60 mm, offer a flat area of 75 mm for sheet metal and pattern rolling, as well as 11 square-wire grooves. Sheet metal up to 6 mm thick can be rolled. The side roller extensions come standard with 4 half-round grooves ranging from 4 mm to 1.5 mm, for example, for the production of ring rails. Additional extension rollers with other profiles are available as options.
Like all Durston rollers, the Olivia features a one-piece cast frame, induction-hardened rollers, and a calibrated handwheel for adjusting the roller gap. It is manufactured entirely at the Durston plant in High Wycombe, United Kingdom.
To ensure safe operation, the roller should be securely mounted on a suitable roller stand or a sturdy workbench. For significant reductions in cross-sectional area, it is recommended to anneal the material between individual rolling passes.
